What We're All About

     **I received this email and was so impressed with how well it
it tells us what we are really about but it is so sad that so few
actually care about our once great nation enough to stand up and
fight for it.

     One of the most cherished lines from the Declaration of
Independence reads, “We hold these Truths to be self-evident,
that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Lovers of liberty
everywhere cling to this sentence with a resolve to protect those
rights with the same vigor as our Founding Fathers.
     Something about that word self-evident, however, has been
on my mind. I’m sure many of us were taught in school that it
means something like “obvious” or another word that expresses the
idea these Truths are apparent to anyone. And that’s certainly
true. The obvious nature of these principles is why every time
tyrants overplay their power, peoples in every age and continent
rise against them.

     But these Truths are more than obvious.

     The principles expressed in the Declaration and enshrined in
the Constitution are not merely obvious, they are fundamentally
true by their very nature. You don’t need evidence or logical
debate to know that the rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit
of Happiness are ours from birth. They are true all by them-
selves, which means that they are a part of our most basic human
nature and dignity.
     That is so much more meaningful than being obvious. But it
also means that protecting those rights becomes all the more
important.
     This is what Mountain States has been about since we started
back in 1977. We go to bat against the government on behalf of
those who want to live their happiness in peace. Mountain States
has fought against pen and phone presidents, gun-grabbing states,
environmental extremists, and discriminatory bureaucrats for
nearly 50 years. And in that time, our principles have been the
same principles of the American Revolution—Life, Liberty, and the
Pursuit of Happiness.
     We believe in true equality and the merit of the individual.
We believe in the right to enjoy your property and manage your
resources. We believe in the right to defend yourself. We believe
in the right to speak your mind, and associate with those you
choose for yourself. We believe in a free country for a free
people.

supporters like you—committed to liberty, the Constitution, and
the rule of law—we can stop the modern-day destructive agenda
that whispers the same tyranny of Mad King George III and
